چکیده

For treating hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC), radiofrequency ablation (RFA), a nonsurgical locoregional therapy, is frequently chosen as the first treatment modality because it is effective and less invasive, with preservation of the remnant hepatic parenchyma. Tumor implantation along needle tract or on other sites is a rare complication of RFA. We present a patient with HCC who developed a drop metastasis into the peritoneal cavity. A 62-year-old male cirrhotic patient with hepatitis B was diagnosed with HCC. On the computed tomography (CT) scan, a 2-cm solitary tumor was found in hepatic segment VII, compatible with HCC (Fig. 1A). Laboratory findings showed an elevated protein induced by vitamin K absence/antagonist-II (PIVKA-II) level (586 mAU/mL), with a normal α-fetoprotein level. The patient was treated with percutaneous RFA. Artificial ascites was created for better visualization of the tumor. The treatment was successful, with complete necrosis of the tumor (Fig. 1B). Twelve months later, a 6-cm lobulated heterogeneous highly enhancing mass was found on the anterior aspect of the Drop metastasis from hepatocellular carcinoma after percutaneous radiofrequency ablation therapy

Cutaneous metastasis from hepatocellular carcinoma after a percutaneous interventional procedure.

Cutaneous metastases from hepatocellular carcinoma are very uncommon, and, according to one series, account for just 0.8% of all cutaneous metastases. Iatrogenic factors appear to be the most common cause and include needle tract seeding during percutaneous interventional procedures and surface seeding of tumor cells during surgery. We present the case of a 35-year-old man with a history of chr...

Immunotherapy for hepatocellular carcinoma following thermal ablation.

Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) is the fifth most common malignant disease and the third leading cause of cancer- associated deaths worldwide, and is characterized by a dismal prognosis. Despite the significant improvements achieved in liver transplantation, surgical resection, transcatheter arterial chemoembolization (TACE) and local ablative therapies such as percutaneous ethanol injection (PE...

Percutaneous radiofrequency ablation of hepatocellular carcinoma compared to percutaneous ethanol injection in treatment of cirrhotic patients: an Italian randomized controlled trial.

AIM To compare 5-year survival of patients with a single hepatocellular carcinoma≤3 cm randomly assigned to receive percutaneous ethanol injection or radiofrequency ablation. PATIENTS AND METHODS A total of 285 patients (192 males, mean age 70 years), with a single hepatocellular carcinoma (mean diameter 2.2 cm) were randomly assigned to receive percutaneous ethanol injection (n=143) or radio...

Transarterial Embolization and Percutaneous Ethanol Injection as an Effective Bridge Therapy before Liver Transplantation for Hepatitis C-Related Hepatocellular Carcinoma.

Background. Transarterial chemoembolization alone or in association with radiofrequency ablation is an effective bridging strategy for patients with hepatocellular carcinoma awaiting for a liver transplant. However, cost of this therapy may limit its utilization. This study was designed to evaluate the outcomes of a protocol involving transarterial embolization, percutaneous ethanol injection, ...
